Another busy week - starting with Top Drawer/Home. I was there on the tuesday and met lots of lovely people, including Donna Wilson http://donnawilson.com - which left me a little bit star struck and with a new bag featuring a ship in a bottle...one day soon there will be a photo.

The day after I had the job of writing on the walls of a very chic house near Frome, I rushed round with my camera at the end of the day so the photos are a all very blurry - so here's just a couple of shots (to save on eye strain)!

With Christmas approaching fast I thought it was time to get sparkly with my last lot of cards...(apologies to anyone from Spike Print Studio who has recently discovered odd bits of glitter on their work)...very exciting though messy, and needed a lot of fixative/hairspray (as I didn't have any fixative...)

I also printed gold birds on blue books...tweet.

This weekend was the christmas at The Makery - lots of people asked if they could buy my things online...and now they can...I've finally opened the doors to my etsy shop - hurrah...there's a few bags and calendars on there at the moment and I'll be filling the shelves a bit more next week now that I've tracked down the battery charger to my camera!

I did a shift in the Smithson Gallery pop up shop in Cabots Circus yesterday - it looks amazing, I took my camera along to take some pics, but it turns out the battery had run out...so I resorted to my phone, they're not the best images ever.....probably best to visit the shop (It's on the top floor of Cabots Circus next to the Sony Centre and a giant Starbucks) www.popupbristol.com

If Bristol is not an option then my snowglobe prints are all in this pop up shop in Stroud...I love the concept of everything being navy (except for my prints, though they are navy in places)...

I've had a couple of busy busy printing weekends getting ready for the Widcombe Christmas fair (if you live in or around Bath then come along next friday evening (6-9pm) and saturday all day

...I've been having many a sleepless night thinking about things to make for it - on wednesday I woke up thinking "of course - biscuit of the month calendar" so thats what I did yesterday, the year starts off with the detox biscuit of the biscuit world - the plain (but delicious) digestive....then ends in a glorious tunnocks teacake - I"ll take some better pictures very soon.

there's also an olympic/jubilee calendar...and a couple of cards...

I printed gold bear and sausage dog bags last week too - but for some reason I forgot to take any pics...for anyone not living in Bath I'm also taking part in Got Craft in Tooting on the 27th nov - more about that nearer the time.

it's been another hardcore weekend of printing...saturday had painful end as I banged my head really really hard on this...ouch

it didn't manage to knock out any of the songs I've had buzzing round my head for the last few days though - highlights include 'Quiche Lorraine' by the B52s (a good one to print dogs to) so I did

and another beautiful little number, which I'll mention later, as it's going to be the title of my new print...heres' a tiny clue...

I also printed loads of 'dawn chorus' tea towels....I'll show them properly later next week, along with the new cat 'n' dog print.

I finished this edition of prints too...phew and relaaaaaax!

It's been hectic in Lottie world since Top Drawer. I went to London again at the weekend and saw an interesting show at the V&A called The Power of Making, which included a giant ape made of wire coat hangers and a walk-in wooden robot. Nice! Also went to the National Portrait Gallery and drank lots of good coffee in various east london venues.

then I had a couple of 11 hour printathons, which involved getting ink all over my flip flop, not surprising considering this...

I had to finish off editions off editions of 'A little grrrizzly' and the 'No bulls were harmed in the making of this print olé!' print...

I also did a new 10 colour print especially for the Battersea Affordable Art Fair, I'm going to show snippets every now and then until the show...

I'm thinking of giving away a couple of free tickets too if any one is interested...are you?

top drawer

I should probably have mentioned this sooner as the show is on right now, but my tea towels, bags and mugs (which arrived just in time) are on display on the New House Textile stand (A26) at Top Drawer at Olympia.

I've just spent two hectic days helping to set up the stand, mostly involving sticking super strength velcro to pegs and writing on the walls. The samples of my 3 new tea towels are nice...if I do say so myself!

I printed yet another boat print at the weekend, despite the fact no one ever buys them.....I think I have finally come up with a plan for combining the fun I have scribbling the water with something else, so I'm going to try and make this the last boat (it's going to be tough, I'll need some kind of rehab or something). I've been listening to Smog/ Bill Callahan all day today - enough to cheer anyone up!

A few weeks back Stephanie Elizabeth Third took some photos of me printing at Spike Island for the september issue of The Bath Magazine a.k.a. known as The Bristol Magazine. Another sunny saturday spent printing at Spike Island - I took my camera along to capture the glory and slight sweatiness (mmm) only to find out I'd left the battery at home - oops. Still my trusty phone did the job and I was also having my photo taken properly by a pro, so look out for shots of me concentrating/gurning/trying to ignore the camera while printing coming soon!

Ahhh, finally a weekend at Spike Print studio - embossing (it's like a gym workout but more satisfying!) printing pop icons and cats while listening to Radio 4...whoever it was on Desert Island Discs chose a Bob song - just as I was gold leafing bits of his guitar!

I've amazingly sold all the cat bags from the first run, so did some more on saturday, he was a tricky beast to print - messy fur! Meeeeeeeeeeeow.

I like to think I made the most of the first sunny saturday in ages - by holding up my embossing at the window!

It's the second edition for John and Yoko, so John is now sporting a jaunty stripey number.

rainy weekend pt.2

it was an even rainier weekend for Bath art fringe art market, it was very nearly cancelled. There was much sitting in the nearby cafe and drinking the biggest coffee they had on offer (so here's my first ever coffee cup shot, it had an impressive swirl on top so ignore the slight spillage).

Anyway it went ahead in the drizzle but wasn't the greatest, rumour is they may try again in august...when it will be sunny and won't rain! We had a really nice display though, thanks to Gill's collection of old wooden drawers and tin trunk...and her dad's frame making skills, learned through years of record fairs.

rainy weekend

it was a bit rainy over the bank holiday and the Bear flat open studio weekend...but it was fun, met lots of people prepared to brave the weather in the name of art - hurrah. There would be more photos but I've mislaid my camera - oops.

this sunday there's an art market in Bath's Kingsmead Square (near Boston Tea Party - so it will be coffee all the way). I'm sharing a table with my friend Gill and spending the next few days printing a few new things...busy busy.

Selvedge fun fair

The last couple of weeks have been a bit whirlwind, heat and flash - getting ready for the Selvedge Fair (so apologies to all those waiting for me to post them something)...it was a really good day (despite my alarm going off at 4.20am) met lots of nice people and overall got good reactions to my stuff - there was tea and cake too.

(A massive thanks to Genna who helped out on the day, I don't think I would've coped without her - thanks Genna)

one of my favourite moments of the day was when one lady stood by my table and said "cheeeeeep" in exactly the way I hear it in my head...love her!

After a busy week, which included a whirlwind trip to Sweden, I had a very fun saturday printing on bags for the Selvedge fair (and the legendary online shop - sigh...one day)

They're not your average cotton shopper, oh no - they're sturdy little numbers made of canvas and they feature a gusset (!) and they have nice long handles.

I've started printing cards for the Selvedge Spring Fair on the 2nd April - unusually organised of myself I must say, I even snapped up a bargain of the week little suitcase on saturday for display purposes...poor thing needs a bit of attention but I'll post snapshots when it's ready for it's close up!

I've been enjoying coming up with titles for my latest prints - I think they make all the difference but start being less fun when you have to write them out 20ish times, still I don't mind too much; getting lines as a punishment at school was always quite a treat)...

It's been another print-athon weekend (and then some), finished 4 new prints for the printmaker show at the Rostra and created pots of gold ink for the first time...look!! (I'm a bit hysterical and tired, so this post might be mildly incoherent and contain too many exclamation marks).

I don't think I can quite express how excited I am to have finally worked out how create glittering gold ...I need to lie down just thinking about it...

Busy in January

Being busy as a bee in January seems wrong - surely I should be following Olivia from Found's advice (http://www.foundbath.co.uk/blog/) and lounging on the sofa with christmas present books while polishing off tins of shortbread...but no, I've spent a long, but fun weekend at sunny Spike Island printing prints for my little show at the Rostra Gallery in February.

the 'rock'n'roll christmas' project was finally revealed at Found last thursday - Nik and Olivia have made a great looking display which involved painting three layers of white paint on cassettes. It was a fun evening of very posh Bertinet mince pies and mulled cider (I wasn't sure about this as I'm such a fan of the mulling of the wine but it turned out to be delicious...and pretty potent). just a quick sneaky peak of John et Yoko on the drying rack (more drying rack shots.....I know I'm getting a bit repetitive but I like the piles of the same image)...anyway as I was saying, a sneaky peak... I was going to show the proper/actual prints but I'm getting them framed and they are to be revealed at Found (a rather snazzy boutique/stationery store in Bath www.foundbath.co.uk , they sell great stationery and the best stripey tops and fluffy wool black dresses and basically I want everything) next thursday...which may well make for more glamorous photos than my usual scrappy numbers.

the last few days have been a frenzy of cutting up card and paper for embossing and the semi secret ceramic project I'm working on (to be revealed pretty damn soon-ish)...

if you happen to have eagle eyes you can just about pick out the embossed bit at the bottom of here. The embossed prints should be finished at the weekend. Yay!

last saturday I printed 100 boxes for New House Textiles - the plan is that if one buys three of my rather delightful tea towels (if I do say so myself) one will receive them packaged in a handprinted box - how marvellous and what a lovely christmas gift it would make for ones chums. The scheme isn't up and running yet (possibly as they're tucked away in a bigger box at the print studio) but I'll announce it when it happens, it's bound to be mentioned on their website (newhousetextiles.co.uk) too. whooooooo

little book and box-in-progress

ones blog posts feel a bit scrappy at the moment, I'm at the beginning of projects so have nothing finished to show, but there are exciting things to come...I'm definitely going to pursue the mulitlingual miaowing cats, maybe I'll try some dry point etching...hmmm...but not just yet.

anyway until I spend the weekend printing here's a little book I just got from Howies featuring 2 drawings I did a couple of years ago that they've finally used (but not the ones I did over the summer - who knows where they'll turn up)...

...and here's a box-in-progress which I'm planning to print for New House Textiles...it will be limited edition and available when someone orders a few tea towels at christmas (it's a-coming)! More details on how to get one soon.

(once again apologies for the messy desk - one day I'll live somewhere with lovely floorboards and my photos will be more glamorous).

meeeeeeow - I'm inspired by the new Ikea advert, with all the cats, I wonder if they really did let them lose in a store at night or if it's camera trickery...I hope it's not...

I've got lots of cat drawings that have been waiting for a home, so what you see here is the start of an idea. The Thai version of meow meow has to be said in a high pitched manner apparently

hurrah - after another print-athon weekend I've finally finished the snowglobe print - "around the world in 20 snowglobes (with elvis in a gold suit)"...thought I'd keep the title nice and short!!

I've been listening to quite a lot of Kathleen Hanna based music recently and trying to get my pony tail higher - Kathleen style - go grrl. It made me think there should be some kind of underground Kathleen Hanna week...but until then a good summer song is to be found on her Julie Ruin album, called Stay Monkey...it starts "your love, you know it tastes so sweet as cold coconut ice- cream" - could be a good title for a print...hmmm.

Not sure my people drawing skills have improved that much, but I've drawn a few magazine covers recently for some stuff for Melanie Giles (coming soon to blog de lottie) and actual real life people (not looking much like themselves) for a newspaper for Howies/Do Lectures - and it's been fun!

the Log Cabin project is taking off, the first lot of t-shirts have been printed...and I'm working on some nice mothy labels. They'll be available to buy on-line soon. Yipeee! I've also been working on some tea towel ideas for New House Textiles, which has involved lots of research into biscuits, cakes and fancy teabags (tough job but someone has to)...I've really enjoyed drawing some of the souvenir spoons with people on them - they make me laugh when I'm drawing, lucky there's no one around!

I finally finished this boats in embossed museum domes drawing the other week - it's another thing thats been lurking under my sofa. I love the floor at the science museum that has cabinet upon cabinet of model boats... I also picked up my first boat drawing from Spike Island - I'd forgotten how big it was, I can understand the girl I overheard while the work was up say "whoever did this must be insane" or words to that effect!

1998 - these are so old Gill and I could hardly remember who'd done them...there's quite a change from the ones I make now...I'm much happier with my drawing these days. On this one there's bit of city lights book store - commemorating our trip to san francisco

1997 - mmm moody!

1996 - I love the chip eating woman, I might draw her and see what happens (she's bound to get a few extra chins, as does everyone I draw)!

2004 - this one was good at the time but now it's a little bit creased!

2002 - (don't know what happened to 2003) I'm liking the envelope - might try and use it in something new

2001 - this is probably my favourite ever...and features my light blue typewriter (with the dodgy ribbon) that seems to live at Baileys homestore these days...sigh!

2000 - this one hasn't aged well - poor thing

1999 - the little photos are from the days of photobooths that used to take 4 different photos and not give you the chance to change your mind

The blue tit features a blue foil quiff and gold leaf tummy and he's perkily perched on an embossed twig. He's packaged in a blue envelope.

while the robin has a glittery red breast and a gold tummy, he too has landed on an embossed twig. All this, in a red envelope for a mere £3!!

I found this scan of the cat power cd cover I made for maddy ages ago - I seem to have gone speech bubble crazy recently...and I have plans for more. I ran past a cat on the canal the other morning and it gave me such a snooty "what do you think you're doing disturbing me" look - cats are great (officially).

I just had to take this photo the other day - sunny flat, typewriter AND bunny lamp - what a winning combination!
